Dr. Seuess

The other night at dinner (egg strada with spinach), Emily told me, "I do not like green eggs and ham."  I quoted to her "Try them, try them and you may.  Try them and you may I say!"  Without missing a beat she responded, "Sam.  If you will let me be, I will try them, you will see."  After this exchange, she willingly ate a bite.  We then had to repeat the act between about every bite, but she did eat her dinner.

I've mentioned before that Emily likes to rename the family based on whatever story she is into.  Lately, she has been Chomper, Alasdair & I have been Little Foot, and Adara has been Ducky.  Bonus points if you can figure out what she's been watching.  :)

Skiing!

Emily's cousin Rosalie turned 3 last week, and we celebrated her birthday with a day at Killington.  We rented toddler-sized skis for the girls and took them out on the hill behind the condo.  I was pleasantly surprised at how much Emily enjoyed herself!  It was a big day with no nap, two ski runs, lots of fun with cousins and a swim in the pool -- both Emily and Rosalie fell asleep at dinner.

We arrived home to the news that Eowyn & Ben had gotten engaged!   A banner day.  :)  Welcome to the family, Uncle Ben!

Sick Days

The girls have been sick this week, so we haven't been getting out much.  Thank goodness for some recent fun gifts from Emily's grandmothers, and a visit from a good friend.  :)

Learning to "play with" her sister - Emily decided we should play dominoes in a circle around Adara.

Somebody skipped her nap the other day and fell asleep on our walk

5 Years

February 5th marked five years since we lost my father in law to cancer.  (My heart aches as I look at how old this picture is - taken a year before he died - and it begins to feel like he's been gone a very long time.)  We still miss him so much, and grieve that our girls will not know him this side of heaven.   My mother in law - who is one of my heroes - recently posted a tribute to God's faithfulness to her throughout this tough year.
You can read it here.

4 Months

Well, this seemed like a fun idea at the beginning, but apparently asking a two year old to smile at the camera while showing the correct number of fingers and holding a baby is a little two much to ask.  Here are my attempts at Adara's 4 month photo.

Day One:
wrong number of fingers (but great hair!)

 getting bored

 falling asleep?
And... then my camera battery died.

Day Two:
Maybe this will be easier if she's not holding the baby?

 Nope.

 Close enough.

Trying some tummy time on big sister.

Smiles from this week

Yesterday my mom was trying to get Emily to tell her what she wanted for lunch.  After ignoring the first few attempts, Emily finally said (without looking up from her playdough),
"Mimi, I can't answer you right now.  I'm making a penguin."
